Module 1 Blog Topic-EDUC7105

What are your beliefs about how people learn best?  What is the purpose of learning theory in educational technology?

My belief of how people learn best is through a multiplicity of ways along with being able to exhibit their wealth of understanding.  In my twenty-seven year teaching tenure I see many students have developed an unenthusiastic attitude toward learning.  As a teacher it is my responsibility to develop an understanding of how the students learn and find a teaching method that is designed to meet their individual learning styles.  This can only be done through differentiation of instructions.  In my opinion when a variety of teaching strategies and other resources are used for students to exhibit their understanding are provided, this creates a more positive attitude in students wanting to receive knowledge.  They can then see the importance of intellectual knowledge and how they can benefit from attaining this knowledge.

In my opinion the purpose of a learning theory in educational technology is for teachers to be knowledgeable of all the available resources to enhance instructions and allow students to achieve their potential or even exceed it.

  1. Hi Shirley,

I agree that individuals learn in a multitude of ways. I have attended many trainings by Marcia Tate. In these trianings she provides examples of how to help students learn and retain knowledge via a multitude of ways. Every time I attend I leave with something new to try with my students.

  2. Hi edtechsavy3

In knowing this I had to move from the one size fit all and find ways of differentiating instructions to meet the needs of all learners. After all my goal is to allow them to experience success in their academics.

  3. I found your post to be very inspiring. I am in my fourth year of teaching fourth grade mathematics. I have found in my short time in education that many veteran teachers become set in their ways and opposed to change. I have found these teachers to become somewhat negative when discussing education, whether they intend to or not. It is refreshing to see a veteran teacher that still has the drive and fire to adapt and change their instructional strategies to ensure the needs of the students are satisfied. I hope and will strive to display the same drive and passion for teaching as you do throughout the course of my career.
